John Edwards Campaign and Eventful Launch the ‘Demand and Be Heard’ Competition – Bring Edwards to Your City
Campaign Uses Eventful’s Unique ‘Demand’ Service to Fuel Support Around the Country
SAN DIEGO--Eventful, Inc., the leading global events website, announced today that it is working with the John Edwards presidential campaign, and launching the ‘Demand And Be Heard’ competition to help the Democratic candidate engage with potential voters across the United States. The campaign is using Eventful Demand, a free online service which empowers people to lobby for their favorite performers, and also political figures such as Edwards to come to their city.
The competition goes live today at eventful.com/johnedwards and will run for one month, closing at 12:00pm PST on July 18. Edwards will speak in the city that ‘Demands’ him the most. Demanders can also submit questions online for Edwards as part of the competition. Edwards will then answer ten of those questions from the winning city at the rally.
"The Edwards campaign is about empowering people, using resources like Eventful, to directly engage voters in every corner of the country,” said Colleen Murray from the John Edwards campaign. “This contest will bring John Edwards and his message of change into communities, encourage dialogue about the issues people care most about, and allow us to work together to transform America.”
Eventful Demand has transformed the way that audiences interact with public figures and performers, empowering them to directly influence where events take place. Using Eventful, candidates are able to track where they are most in demand, schedule appearances based on this data and also communicate directly with their Demanders via email.
Eventful’s viral tools make it easy for campaigns and supporters to spread the word by including links and Demand stickers on social networks such as MySpace, blogs and websites. In addition, both the John Edwards campaign and Eventful have incorporated Eventful Demand into their Facebook applications, making it easier for Facebook users to spread the word.
“We are excited to be working with the John Edwards campaign to help them engage their most active, passionate supporters around the country,” said Jordan Glazier, Eventful CEO. “Eventful helps candidates translate online supporter enthusiasm into real-world activity such as rallies and events, and enables people to get directly involved in the political issues that impact their daily lives. In the run-up to the 2008 election, we expect a lot more of this type of interaction between candidates and potential voters.”
Candidates and their supporters can post events for free on Eventful, enabling users to discover and promote upcoming local events. Eventful hosts over 10,000 future political event listings, including campaign appearances, fundraisers, grass-roots group meetings and other local political events. Eventful also includes the full schedule of senatorial committee meetings in Washington D.C. Events in Eventful’s database can easily be posted to other services including Microsoft Outlook, Apple iCal, Google Calendar, Yahoo Calendars and RSS feeds.
